[ True to his word, he's there in half an hour— almost exactly on the dot. He's got a plastic bag carried at the crook of one elbow, filled with several pints of ice cream. He pulls a hand out of his pockets and knocks firmly on the door. ]

[Futaba is not used to people being punctual. Normally, anyone would use that as an excuse for not being ready--Futaba didn't care for excuses, she was just lazy. Which is why she answers the door still dressed in her pajamas. Why bother getting dressed when she's just going to lounge around the house all day.]

You have the payment? [She asks with a wide grin, already eying the bag he was carrying.]

[ He removes the other hand from his pocket so he can slip the back into his hand and hold it out to her. ]

I may have gone overboard on options.

[ There's the pistachio, matcha, and cookie dough options she mentioned.... Also rocky road, chocolate fudge, french vanilla, neapolitan, and bacon.

Yes, bacon-flavoured ice cream. ]

Figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

[She takes that bag with a healthy dose of enthusiasm--and proceeds to rifle through it to see just what he brought. Bacon is an interesting choice--exotic.]

You've done well. [Way to sound like some seedy game boss, Futaba.]

Come on, I have my rig upstairs. [She waves for him to follow her, making sure to detour into the kitchen to drop off all but the pint of matcha in the freezer before trotting up to her room.]

[ It's on the tip of his tongue to say something about how he hopes she's not going to eat them at once and that she has something healthy to eat, but— he doesn't really know her, and it doesn't seem like the time besides. So he holds his tongue on the topic as he follows her.

Okay, so he does glance at what she has in her kitchen as he follows her. But he doesn't say anything! ]

[Someone really should call her out on it. She likes homecooked meals, but never makes them. She subsists on instant noodle cups and...She's not the healthiest eater, just put it that way.

When they get up to her room she settles into her computer chair, taking a gleeful spin before turning back to him with a wide grin.]

Don't mention it. I like messing with tech anyway--and honestly, my upgrades are pretty essential to maintaining privacy. So--[She holds out her head expectantly.] Comm unit, please.

[ He pulls his hand out of his pocket, comm unit held in it. ]

[ It has occurred to him that she could put her own stuff in there to track him if she were inclined, but Shinjiro's choosing to trust Yusuke's friend. ]

Same here. I don't need people snooping in my stuff.

[And thank you Shinjiro, that comm is now hers. She pulls out some tools and sets up on the desk. She's tempted to install her tracker, but the team's goal is to work with him--best not to do it unless it proves necessary.

Apologize ahead of time if her popping open shit and plugging things in is likely to freak you out, by the by. Because she's just...gunna do that.]

[ Shinjiro openly stares at her work, somewhere in between horrified and impressed. She clearly knows what she's doing— which is good because he very much doesn't. ]

To be honest, I'd kind of resigned myself to not having a choice. I'm relieved that's not the case.

[ Not that he has anything particularly private on there, but he doesn't want a device he needs to rely on so much to be so easy to break into. ]

Mm...[She hums in response first, already in her zone. Her friends learned quickly that once she's in that headspace, she's almost noncommital with answers--if she even puts in that much effort.

Still, somewhere in her thoughts, it registers that this is someone she needs and wants to play nice with. A bit more effort on her part would probably go a long way. She could multitask just fine.]

It was one of the first projects I focused on. I can't make it completely untrackable, but by the time I'm done you'll have some tools to make anonymous posting easier...and hacking from the outside harder--a firewall basically. One of the best.

[Okay, so talking about something she's interested in definitely had her saying more than she had planned on. Huh. This conversation while working thing really wasn't all that hard.]

[ Shinjiro nods, aware that Futaba's probably so focused on what she's doing that she doesn't see the motion. ]

[ Which he isn't terribly impressed with, but nothing about this version of America's government has him particularly impressed. It's just par for the course. ]

Oh, they definitely have some stupid crap in here. I'm worried about tampering with it if they use it for tracking...so I leave it alone.

[She might mess with it later on her own, but she's not risking someone else for her curiosity.]

I can't say I blame you. They'd probably lose their minds unless it's done delicately.

Totally. Or it could be hardwired to trip an alert or something. I'd have to spend a lot more time digging into this thing to do anything about it.

[She goes quiet again, tinkering with a few parts before closing up the device and making sure it booted up right. She makes quick work of installing several things and messing with coding before she holds it out to him.]

That should have you covered. My coding should allow you to more readily post anonymously if you need to--or to hide your identity behind an alias--whatever works.

[ Shinjiro takes the comm unit and puts it back in his pocket. ]

[ Though now he's sharply aware that he's standing around in the room of a girl he barely knows. He glances towards the door, then looks back to her. ]

[ And then, because with the sad state of her kitchen, he just can't help it: ]

[Her grin is confident, but it quickly falters and is replaced with a mild look of surprise at his offer.]
